How to download CS2 demos

A demo is the recording of a match (a .dem file). Where you get it depends on where the match was played: Valve matchmaking (Premier and competitive), FACEIT, or HLTV for pro matches.

Premier and competitive matches

  1. Open CS2 and go to Watch in the top menu.
  2. Pick the match you want from the list of your recent matches.
  3. Press the download button. Once it finishes, the demo is saved on your computer and you can watch it from the game.

Demos the game downloads are saved here (default Windows install); the file names start with match730_:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\game\csgo\replays

Valve keeps match demos for a limited time, and the download option disappears for older matches. Download the demo of a match you want to review soon after playing it.

FACEIT

On faceit.com, open the match room from your match history and press the demo button. The demo downloads as a compressed file (usually .gz or .zst); you don't need to unpack it to upload it here.

HLTV (pro matches)

On hltv.org, open the match page and click the GOTV demo link. All maps of the series come in one .rar archive. Upload it without unpacking; each map is added to your library as its own demo.

Where do I put a demo?

Common problems

The download stops halfway

Restart Steam, try again and make sure there is enough disk space. If the demo has expired, it can no longer be downloaded.

My file is .dem.bz2, .gz or .zst

These are compressed demos. Unpack them to watch in game; to upload them here you don't need to.

I have an old CS:GO demo

CS:GO demos (the file starts with HL2DEMO) don't play in CS2, and our 2D viewer supports CS2 demos only.
